Trimmer

This tool, called a butteris, was used for trimming the inside of the hoof and for smoothing the bottom surface for the horse shoe. The blacksmith would place the pad of the butteris against his shoulder and apply pressure, trimming the hoof. This same process was sometimes done with a hoof knife.
