Jar
19th century
An apothecary jar would have been used by an apothecary to hold medicines or other materials. An apothecary is the historical name for what is now referred to in America as a pharmacist. An apothecary's store would have had medicines for ailments but also products such as patent medicines or tobacco. The china jar with stylized floral design around the text "MURIATO De AMON" retains the maker's mark, "Mehun/France CP/& CQ."
