This bottle was used to hold poisons, a source for fighting deadly toxins that began to emerge with the scientific advances in medicine in the 19th century. Because a thorough knowledge of toxicology is needed to administer poisons accurately and effectively, this was a dangerous practice among physicians in the Republic who did not have the technological luxuries we enjoy today.
