Lamp
early 19th century
This oil burning lamp was called a "slot lamp" and burned oil in a shallow basin. These lamps would sometimes drip, which could become wasteful and messy. To fix this, slot lamps were stacked on top of each other, forming "Phoebe lamps." The second lamp would catch the drippings, that could then be burned later.
