Butter worker

Once milk was ready to be churned it was placed inside a wooden container, called a clabber. The butter worker, or dasher, would then go through a hole in the top of the container. A child would usually begin to make the butter, but once it started to form an experienced homemaker would complete the job. After the butter was formed, it would be molded and, sometimes, a design would be stamped on the top.
