Declaration of Causes for Taking Up Arms Against Mexico
11-7-1835
On November 3, 1835, a group of delegates met at San Felipe de Austin. They represented Texans unhappy with Mexican President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's shift from a federalist government to a centralist government. Delegates struggled with the question of whether they were fighting for independence from Mexico or supporting the federalist government represented by the Mexican constitution of 1824. They voted to support the Mexican constitution, though their declaration addresses independence as well.
